PEOPLE in Bradford on Avon are angry over an increase to parking permits.

Those people who purchase a permit are not guaranteed a space despite paying to have access to park.

At a highways and transport committee meeting at St Margaret's Hall, on Tuesday, (February 11) Cllr Sarah Gibson addressed the concerns over the strategy for setting charges which came in on November 19 2019 for off street permits.

Cllr Gibson said: "The situation as it stands is to go back to Wiltshire Council to try to phase in the raise in charges so it is less of an impact to current permit holders.

"People are concerned as a few years ago they were about £150 now they're £400 so it's quite a dramatic rise.

"Parking permits are in line with season ticket holder's prices which seems unfair for people living here as the usage is different .

"They had a consultation in 2017 but it wasn't very obvious to people and they didn't target permit holders so people don't feel they were aware what was happening.

"At a review maybe we may be able to get it changed. But the decision has been made so we probably wont get the council to change it."

Town Clerk, Sandra Bartlett added: "There has been an increase in resident permits for car parks which is proportionate to inflationary costs. But it doesn't seem a fair system as it has gone up considerably.

"You also aren't guaranteed a place if it is full. We looked at it several months ago when it was initially bought in but people in the town are complaining and of course don't like it. I wouldn't buy one unless I knew I was guaranteed a space."
