THE B3108 road between Bradford on Avon and Winsley could see safety measures to help protect pedestrians and cyclists.

The road has caused concerns because of speeding and is among the first tranche of projects Wiltshire Council has submitted to receive some of the £238 million Government cash from social distancing funds.

Winsley and Wiltshire councillor Johnny Kidney said: "I am delighted that it has been shortlisted among the first tranche of projects and sent to the Department for Transport for approval.

"If approved by the DfT, this will make a huge difference, providing a safer route for all walkers and cyclists, and particularly vulnerable residents and young people from the village accessing St Laurence School when it re-opens.

"The road there is wide and fast, with just a narrow footway running alongside a high stone wall making it a very intimidating environment for walkers and cyclists, particularly children and more vulnerable residents."

He added: "While the funding from the government scheme is designed to help authorities use temporary interventions to create an environment that is safe for both walking and cycling in response to the Covid-19 crisis, I am confident that if approved by the DfT, the proposals for the B3108 will lead to a permanent solution to provide a safe route for walkers and cyclists between Winsley and Bradford-on-Avon."
