THE driver of a Mercedes was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with suspected neck and spinal injuries following a crash near Westbury on Sunday June 21.

Firefighters were forced to cut the roof off the damaged car to free the trapped driver.

He was taken by land ambulance to the RUH on a long board.

Police closed the B3097 Hawkeridge Road from Yarnbrook to Westbury for two hours after the collision between a silver Mercedes and a black BMW.

Fire crews from Trowbridge and Warminster used special hydraulic equipment to cut the roof off the Mercedes and free the driver.

The accident happened around 12.43pm and closed the road while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Lorries coming off the West Wilts Trading Estate were parked up on the B3097 as they were unable to use the Station Road bridge at Westbury because of its 7.5-tonne weight limit.
