CHILDREN at a Warminster primary school have been creating artwork and videos to help promote a national competition.

The Year 6 pupils in Badgers Class at Minster Church of England Primary School were asked by the Staedtler Teachers’ Club if they would like to help promote the Sketching Stars 2020 competition.

This year’s theme is ‘Alien Adventure’, where children can design their very own alien. It will challenge pupils to imagine and design an alien friend for Noris Colour who will join him as he embarks on a journey through outer space.

The school’s Year 6 teacher Kelly Sattin said: “We spent a couple of afternoons on our designs.

“The children were filmed colouring, talking about their designs and why they loved the competition. We even filmed some Mexican waves.

“The children’s favourite clip is of them continuing to colour, even when I have offered them extra golden time or extra play. As I leave the shot, the children then all wave at the camera.”

Miss Sattin is a brand ambassador for Staedtler Teachers’ Club. This involves blogging about various elements of teaching, including top tips and finding the lighter side to life as a teacher.

She added: “ I also make fun TikToks and clips for their Facebook page.

“As part of being their brand ambassador, I was asked if my class and I could film some clips of us completing the colouring, which they would use to promote Sketching Stars on their social media platforms. The children absolutely loved designing their aliens and being part of the promotional videos. They enjoyed having the freedom to make their ideas come to life and being as creative as possible.

“They were so enthusiastic and really enjoyed the silly videos that we created as a class. Being able to take part in this gave the children a real confidence boost in terms of their artistic talents, as well as help them with their myth writing.”

Parents, carers, guardians and pupils will be able to see the promotional footage from Staedtler Teachers’ Club on their social media pages.

To be in with a chance of winning a bundle of amazing prizes, children from across the UK will need to use colouring pencils and a tonne of imagination to bring their alien design to life.

The Staedtler Teachers’ Club is a free website for teachers to go to for some light-hearted break time reading, teaching news and top tips. It also provides many cross-curricular resources that teachers can download for free.

There are also lots of STEM bonus activities and resources that teachers can use, which go alongside the colouring competition.

Two competition winners: one from KS1 and another from KS2 will both get their hands on some out-of-this-world prizes, including:

• £300 worth of stationery for their school;

• An official winner’s certificate;

• A personal Staedtler goody bag.

Plus, two runners-up will also be chosen. They’ll win:
