A 61-year-old man was banned from driving for two years because he was three times the legal alcohol limit.
Alan Dickson, of Mannington Park, was arrested on Saturday afternoon after a member of the public called the police about a potential drink driver.
His Renault Clio was spotted by officers on Great Western Way and stopped in Mannington Park. He took a roadside breath test which produced a reading of 116mcgs. The limit is 35.
He was taken into custody at Gablecross police station and appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving.
He was disqualified from driving for two years, ordered to carry out 40-hours of unpaid work and pay a fine of £180.
PC Andy Lee said: “This driver was clearly intoxicated when we approached his vehicle and this sentencing is a fair reflection of the severity of his actions. Luckily, he did not cause a traffic collision, injure anyone else or even himself.”
