CAMERAS to record the volume and speed of traffic through the Bradford on Avon social distancing scheme are to be installed this week.

The Vivacity cameras being installed along the one-way system will replace software defined radio communication sensors.

Cllr Sarah Gibson, a Bradford on Avon town and Wiltshire councillor, said: "This will give us real-time traffic data to monitor the increase in traffic with the end of lockdown, as well as pedestrian movements and cycling patterns to give us a much clearer picture of the overall use of the scheme.

"Following the town council's request for a formal crossing on the north of the bridge and refuge crossings on the Springfield/New Road area, the request has gone in to the Wiltshire Cabinet member for transport and is being followed up by myself and Cllr Mike Roberts.

"Survey work for formal crossings on the Springfield/New Road area has also been requested, as well as a blanket 20mph limit throughout the town."
