ORGANISERS of a campaign to raise funds for a new £300,000 skatepark in Bradford on Avon have been given the go-ahead by the town council.

Christine Giles, of Christine's Sustainable Supermarket, has personally pledged £2,000 towards the scheme. She is urging customers and residents to raise £5,000 towards the skatepark costs.

Mrs Giles said: "We’ve had the go ahead to start fundraising for the skatepark.

"The more money we raise as a community the more likely we are, as a town, to get funding through grant applications that our town council will be applying for.

"Christine’s Sustainable Supermarket is on a mission to raise £5,000 towards the skatepark and, if we achieve this, the shop will personally donate £2,000.

"Please help us if you can by putting a donation in our collection box on the counter at the till.

"Mary Lu Mitchell, who made and donated hundreds of face masks to our free food boxes during the first lockdown, has already donated £160 towards the skate park through face mask sales so we are already on our way."

Bradford on Avon Town Council has commissioned Maverick to design and build the skatepark. The company recently completed one in Newquay in Cornwall.

Mrs Giles added: "A big thank you to everybody who has already signed the petition for the new BoA skatepark. The petition has reached 1,242 signatures which is fantastic!

"The plans have been confirmed and fundraising is in the pipeline with the town council and if you would like to donate soon thank you in advance.

"We will have a box on the till in the shop, and every little helps! We think it would be fantastic if the lovely people of BoA could get the petition to 2,000 signatures to show the council how much we want this for the kids.

"It is so important to give them somewhere safe to skate and, after everything that has been going on this year, it's really important to show them that we care. They deserve it."
