Plans to build three bungalows in Great Cheverell have been quashed at appeal.

Planning inspector, Jonathan Edwards, has sided with a Wiltshire Council decision to refuse Geoff Mitchell planning permission to demolish an existing bungalow at 85 High Street and build three more in its place.

In his decision, Mr Edwards highlighted that proposals would not fit the area's heritage and that the planned removal trees and hedges would actively take away from its character and appearance.

Mr Edwards also said the bid was not in a suitable location: “While it would add to the housing stock, there is no evidence that shows the proposal would meet the residential needs of the village.”

Mr Mitchell pointed to the council’s lack of a five-year land supply, as part of his appeal.

However, the inspector notes out that policies relating to heritage still gave grounds to refuse the bid.
