For many, the fear of a tooth extraction can be worse than their current pain. At our centre, our dedicated team have created a stress-free environment that supports even the most nervous of patients.

Specialist oral surgeon Harlene Dhaliwal explains: “The centre is smaller than most hospitals that carry out the level of oral surgery we can offer. The team is very friendly and highly skilled, allowing us to offer excellent care in as stress-free environment as possible, and every patient meets the surgeon before their operation”.

Wiltshire Times:

While some patients are just a little anxious, others have a phobia that has seen them avoid dentists for decades, leading to significant decay and pain.

Harlene sympathises: “Dental phobia is a very real issue for some, we can tell from our blood pressure monitoring that anxiety can even affect those who do not think they are worried. The good news is that we use a sedative that ensures that, whilst the patient is conscious, they are in an incredibly relaxed and calm state.

“It has fewer of the potential side effects of a general anaesthetic and after treatment, patients have an approximately 45-minute recovery stay on the ward before being sent home, usually with a cup of tea and biscuits. They return home with a pain-free future and the ability to eat in comfort again. And all of this within a week or two of assessment. Such positive experiences reduces many of patients’ fears of dentistry, which is incredibly rewarding”.

NHS patients can be referred to Devizes Surgical Centre via their own dentist, while private patients can contact the self-pay team for details of immediate referral.
