A BOGUS caller struck at a property in Trowbridge this afternoon.
The man called at a property in Surrey Place at about 4.15pm claiming to be from the water board.
He said he was investigating a contamination in the area and needed to carry out some tests.
Having gained entry to the house, he ran the water in both the bathroom and kitchen to distract the female occupier for about 10 minutes.
He then left, saying he would return later but never did.
The woman visited neighbours to say she was worried that he had not returned and when she re-entered her home she found that an untidy search had been made.
The conman is described as white, aged between 30-40 years with short black hair.
He is said to have a blotchy red face and is about 5ft 4in tall wearing a black coat with a water board badge on it and carrying a black document holder.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Pc Debbie Ashby at Trowbridge Police on 0845 4087000.
