In Wiltshire more than 170,000 people have been given their first coronavirus jab since the start of the vaccination rollout.

NHS data shows that 170,909 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine have made their way into the arms of Wiltshire residents, up to February 28.

Of those vaccinated 105,512 were aged 65 or over – 97 per cent of the age group – which means that 65,397 people aged between 16 and 64 have also received their first dose.

However, on Twitter, Wiltshire Council warned against complacency. The local authority said that even with a dose of the vaccine people can still spread the virus.

It tweeted: “In order to keep others around you safe, please continue to follow government guidelines including social distancing, wearing a face mask & washing your hands regularly.”

In the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire CCG area 305,733 doses in total have been administered to residents.

Of that figure, 8,973 people have received their second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
