THE new and improved play area at King George V Park in Melksham is almost ready for its opening next month.

The play area has been closed for the past two months while contractors working for Melksham Town Council have installed new equipment and favourites from the old play area.

Council leader Vanessa Fiorelli said: “The finishing touches are being completed on the new play area.

“The new hill slide is in and all the rubber safety matting is in place. The grass will grow through the matting and can be mowed over.

“Rubbish bins are in place and some lovely benches have been installed. Fingers crossed it won’t be long now.”

The council hopes to open the new and much-improved play area near the splashpad at the top of the park at the beginning of April.

The council also plans to open a new cafe in the old cricket pavilion, so mums, dads and grandparents can sit and watch the children play.
