IT’S all go as west Wiltshire slowly gets back to the ‘new normal’.

All 20 of the county’s leisure centres reopened on Monday morning and swimmers were able to enjoy an early dip in the pools.

Keep fit enthusiasts queued outside their local gyms as they reopened for the first time in three and a half months.

And bookworms rejoiced as libraries across the county turned a new leaf.

In Trowbridge 93 visitors had already passed through the doors of County Hall by 1pm with many enjoying the new books stocking the shelves of the library.

Debbie Russon, senior library assistant, said: “We love having people back in the library. So, this morning has been fantastic. There’s been positive energy coming into the library.

“For a lot people it’s not just about the books, it’s the social interaction, having a nice space to come to that isn’t home. And with our bookable computers people have always got access to the internet and printing.”

One customer told library staff: “I’m so, so grateful you have reopened, I missed the library so much.”

Adam Shackell, co-owner of The Crossfit Gym in Trowbridge, reopened at 6.30am and says his members were ‘chomping at the bit’ to get back in.

“We have been super busy and have managed to keep the majority of our members despite lockdown.

“We feel that we’re part of the solution in helping to keep people fit and healthy, but rules are rules and there’s not a lot we can do about it.

“We’re pretty much fully booked for tonight and our members are chomping at the bit to get back in and see other human beings again.

“I think many of them have missed the human contact.”

Like many businesses, The Beauty Hut in Trowbridge, was formed to close at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Owner Lucy Clarke has now re-opened her beauty treatment business in new premises and is looking forward to welcoming back customers old and new.

She said: “I have now moved just across the road to 22 Castle Street giving me more room.

“It’s a nice open space and I’ll be focusing on more aesthetic treatments such as dermal fillers, PRP plasma facials, hair rejuvenation and mole and skin lesion removals, as well as my usual beauty treatments.

“It’s definitely been tough – I hadn’t even been open a year, before I was forced to close.

“Luckily I managed to get some really amazing loyal clients who have been really supportive during this

time.”
