TROWBRIDGE'S iconic Town Hall will restart its live performance programme with a three-day festival beginning on Friday, May 28.

Over the bank holiday weekend, the venue will play host to stand-ups in the restored Old Court whilst musicians will take to the stage in the Sensory Garden behind.

The festival – Get Up, Stand Up – kicks off with American comedian Sara Barron, who has appeared on television comedy programmes Live at the Apollo and Would I Lie To You?, and who is one of the UK's fastest-rising talents, guaranteed to be a household name very soon.

Among those joining her is Paul McCaffrey from Russell Howard’s Good News and Comedy Central Stand Up Special.

The following night sees a set from legendary stand-up Robin Ince, co-host with Brian Cox of the Infinite Monkey Cage, whilst Sunday welcomes Stuart Goldsmith, creator of The Comedian’s Comedian podcast.

Saturday and Sunday also play host to the Best of the West, a club night featuring brilliant new talent from across the region with Master of Ceremonies Mark Olver, considered one of the very best comperes on the circuit.

Programmer Gavin Osborn said: “I’ve invited some of my favourite comedians on the circuit, both well-established names and equally talented performers from across the UK.

"The aim was to have something for everyone and to have liberating and intimate evenings that will live long in the memory.

"I can’t wait to experience the giddy thrill of getting back in a room with other people and experiencing live performance after such a long break.”

Meanwhile, from noon on Saturday, visitors can enjoy live music in the glorious surroundings of the Sensory Garden. Musicians from across the area will perform throughout the weekend in a series of unique free concerts.

Mr Osborn added: “This will be a celebration of live music. Not just of the phenomenal talent within our county, but of the act of shared listening in a shared space.

"After months of recorded sound in the confines of our own homes, I imagine this will be an extraordinary experience.”

The Trowbridge Town Hall Trust operates the historic town hall. It was set up to restore and revitalise the building for the local community.

Director David Lockwood has recently announced plans to refurbish the main auditorium and increase the seating capacity to transform it into a key town centre venue.

The Trust hopes to secure some financial support from the £16.3 million Wiltshire Council was recently awarded from the Government's Future High Street Fund to regenerate Trowbridge town centre.

Alongside its cultural programme, the Town Hall is home to two shops, a café, four community meeting spaces, ten studios and a gallery.

Booking for live music is not required. Tickets for comedy and many other shows are on the Town Hall website: trowbridgetownhall.com
