The heatwave is set to continue across Wiltshire this week, before thunder hits next weekend.

Temperatures will be just below 30°C for most of today, and will remain high for the next few days.

The UK has recorded the hottest day of the year yesterday (July 18) so far with temperatures exceeding 30C in both England and Wales.

In England, 31.6C (88.88F) was recorded in Heathrow, overtaking Saturday’s record-breaking 30.3C (86.54F) recorded in Coton in the Elms, Derbyshire.

The forecast for Wiltshire is as follows: 

Monday

Today will be another dry and fine day, with plenty of sunshine throughout. It will feel very warm or hot in the sunshine.

Tuesday

This evening will be dry with late sunshine. Tonight will continue dry and calm, with clear skies throughout. Feeling warm.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday

Wednesday will be another very warm day with plenty of sunshine throughout. Thursday is expected to continue warm with lots of sunshine, but a few isolated showers may develop during the afternoon. Friday will be a slightly cooler day, but it will remain dry with lots of sunshine. A few showers may move in during the evening, however.

Come Saturday, thunder and lighting is expected throughout Wiltshire.

Becky Mitchell, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We could get up to 32C (89.6F) next week, it is possible each day for different places in the country.

“The most likely areas to get 32C are parts of the Midlands and down towards south-west England and potentially London, they are all going to see the highest temperatures in the coming days.”

The Met Office is working with Public Health England to ensure that people stay safe in the hot conditions, urging the public to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and assist anyone who is more vulnerable to the heat.
