POLICE have today revoked the licence of a man who was not securing firearms in accordance with his licence.

Armed officers were seen outside a property in Sandridge Common near Melksham at 1.50pm today where several firearms were seized.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "At 1.50pm today we attended a property in Sandridge Common, Melksham, where a number of suspected firearms that appeared not to be stored in a secure way, in accordance with the owner’s licence.

"No arrests were made but the weapons were removed from the premises and his licence has been revoked."

The incident sparked concerns from members of the public who reported seeing armed police and several vehicles.

Police said the firearms seized were shotguns and bolt action rifles.

They did not identify the gun owner or how long the man had held his licence.
