PART of the A338 has been urgently closed next week to remove deadly trees nearby.

The A338 Shalbourne from its junction with Picadilly Crossroads to where it meets Carvers Hill will be closed from August 16.

The closure will allow Wiltshire Council to remove dangerous trees affected by ash dieback disease.

An alternative route is proposed via the unaffected length of the A338, A4, A346 and vice versa.

A spokesman for the local authority said: “The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

“Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.”

The works are expected to take 17 days and will be in force between the hours of 8am and 4pm.
