MORE than 600 cyclists will pass through Wiltshire towns and villages on Sunday in a charity bike ride to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice and other charities.

They will be riding one of three routes of 70-miles, 50-miles and 25-miles in this year's Bike Bath, an event run by Iconic Cycling Events.

The event is taking place on Sundayafter being rescheduled because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions earlier this year.

Richard Best, who founded Breathing Space Activities Ltd in 2004, the parent company of Iconic Cycling Events, says: "We have more than 600 riders taking part.

"Bike Bath is a day of short, medium and long marked rides, taking in the best scenery of Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire."

There are three start and finish locations at Bath Recreation Ground, Devizes Sports Centre and at Frome Rugby Club.

But Malcolm Cupis, who lives in Keevil, said: "I have just found about this by accident.

"There are a number of cycling events with routes passing through Keevil and surrounding villages on Sunday.

"Nobody seems to have been pre-warned and there is no information about how many riders are participating, what time they will pass through, what disruption we should expect and what traffic management procedures have been put in place."

Bike Bath is being supported by the Bath Recreation Trust and VC Walcot and has an entry fee of £30 for adults for the medium and long routes, and £25 for the short route, with children being charged £15.

The three rides will raise funds for the Dorothy House Hospice and other charities. All riders will receive a medal for taking part.

Mr Best says all routes will be signposted with arrows, and cyclists will be given fully waymarked routes with a back-up route map and GPS files to follow.

"They won't be going through like a peloton. It will be more like a trickle," he said.

There will be feed stations showcasing produce from local food and drink suppliers, plus on-route first aid and mechanical support.
