A Melksham charity shop is encouraging people to browse for a bargain at a special end-of-summer sale as it continues to recover from the financial impact of the pandemic.

Cats Action Trust North & West Wiltshire suffered a massive drop in income after its Bath Road store was closed during the national lockdowns.

Following a successful reopening in April - which saw a surge of support from new volunteers - this weekend sees the launch of its annual end-of-summer sale.

Profits will support the rehoming of cats and kittens throughout the local area.

The clearance sale starts this Saturday September 4 and runs for three weeks.

Special offers include men’s, women’s and children’s clothing for just £1, with shoes and handbags at half-price.

Books will be offered for just 50p each, with children’s books selling at three for £1. Games and jigsaws will also be available.

There will also be a selection of cat carriers, scratching posts and bedding for pets.

Trust chair Tracy Waldron said: “Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors, we’re raising much-needed funds for the charity’s vital work across the area.“The clearance sale enables us to recycle all of our summer stock to make way for our autumn and winter clothing, and we’re sure that people will be impressed by the many bargains on offer."Every purchase supports our efforts to find new ‘forever homes’ for the cats and kittens in our care.”

The Trust shop, near the town bridge, is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am-3.30pm.

The charity welcomes donations of good-quality clothes, books, toys, games, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac, but due to limited space it cannot accept bulky items such as furniture, bedding and electrical items.

Guidance on donations is available at www.catsactiontrust.org.uk/shop - please do not leave any items on the doorstep.

The shop also acts as a collection point for donations of cat food and cat litter.
