TROWBRIDGE Pride is looking forward to its first cabaret night in October with big plans coming for the LGBTQ+ group, next year.

The cabaret night (Saturday, October 2) will be held at the Peace Memorial Hall in North Bradley and is set to be a wonderful night of singing, comedy and entertainment.

On the lineup is drag bingo night host, Fanny Burns and Bristolian drag queen Jam Tart, as well as music from local band Sour Apple.

“We’ve already done drag bingo and a couple of pop up shops since lockdown, so this is our upscaling,” said Nathan Anthony, the secretary for Trowbridge Pride.

The drag bingo nights, held in the town centre cafe Leykers, have seen up to 90 people attending pre-Covid and hosted around 50 in July.

One of the challenges of hosting the events, Nathan said, is finding venues connected enough and that have good capacity.

But looking forward, the organisation hopes to host another pop-up stall around the holiday season this year, with bigger plans in the works for the coming year.

In 2023, Trowbridge Pride aspires, not just to be in Trowbridge, but branch out to other towns across the county which do not have Pride organisations.

The coming year will also be about fundraising for the event and from there they hope to build the event up gradually every year.

“We’ve started planning for next year,” Nathan said: “The way we envision it, to start with is a small Pride in 2023 and then building it up.

“In January we’re hoping to start monthly coffee mornings, and we’re in talks with the town hall about mixing up locations across the town.

“It provides a free event and you can talk to us. We’re going to reach out to the trans charity, Trans Swindon and Mermaids, so they can come along so parents can get advice and support young people.

“Next year, our focus is to get out with the pop-up shop and with the coffee mornings to the towns which don’t have a Pride, so we can be there to talk to people and hopefully they can start up groups locally.”
