Wiltshire Council Singers, the council’s staff choir, joined forces with The Keevil Singers to perform a fund raising concert for the people of Ukraine.

They were joined by local Ukrainian singer Nicole Medin who sang two Ukrainian folk songs and joined the choirs in singing the Ukrainian national anthem.

The concert took place on Wednesday (March 23) at Holy Trinity Church in Trowbridge and raised £1,518.50 for the Disasters Emergency Ukraine Appeal.

Denise Drew, Musical Director of the Wiltshire Council Singers said: "The concert was arranged at very short notice but many of the songs performed had words which suited the situation, including Somewhere Out There, Let My People Go and Anthem, a song of every immigrant who has left their native land to journey to a new one. We wanted to entertain people and make them happy.

“Like a lot of people, we felt powerless to do anything about the terrible situation unfolding in Ukraine, but both choirs felt that this was something we could do to show our support for the people of Ukraine.

“Thank you to everyone that came along to the concert to show their support for the people of Ukraine and donated so generously to the Disasters Emergency Ukraine Appeal.”
