A housebuilder has received an RSPB gold award for the wildlife-friendly show home garden at its Hunters Wood development in Melksham.

Barratt David Wilson Homes created the development as part of its corporate partnership with RSPB, in line with guidance to help welcome a range of nature.

To win the Wildlife Show Garden Award, the space had to include a range of features that support and enhance nature and natural habitats.

At Hunters Wood this includes a bat box, water butt, composter, wildflower turf and seeds, scented planting, dead wood stack, bird boxes and feeders, hedgehog house and highway and an insect hotel.

Native hedging also makes this outdoor space suitable for many types of wild animals that may stumble upon it.

Louise Ware, sales director at Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “We’ve enjoyed a relationship with the RSPB for eight years and we want to continue to ensure we’re doing that bit extra to retain and build upon the natural habitats at our developments. We’re looking forward to seeing the show home garden teeming with life this summer.”

Barratt David Wilson Homes has been partnered with the RSPB since 2014. The agreement is the first of its kind in the UK which aims to boost natural habitats at Barratt David Wilson Homes developments across the country.
