A popular restaurant chain recently saw one of its Wiltshire restaurants given one of the lowest hygiene ratings of an eatery in the county.

According to the Food Standards Agency, the Hungry Horse pubs, The Rowden Arms in Chippenham, scored just one star on its latest hygiene inspection.

But Wiltshire Council has confirmed after the pub appealed against the rating that this has now been changed.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Public Portion said: “We can confirm that the Rowden Arms was inspected by our food safety team on 26 March 2022 and that the business appealed the original rating immediately.

"The appeal was upheld and the correct rating of four should be showing on the FSA website by the end of today.”

A spokesperson for the Rowden Arms also added: “Wiltshire Council recently awarded our pub a 1* food hygiene rating, which we disagreed with strongly as we operate to an extremely high standard of food safety.

"We appealed this rating immediately and the council has accepted it was inaccurate and amended it to 4*.

"We’re extremely disappointed that the original 1* rating was still published as it does not reflect our high standards and we are asking the council to update this to the correct rating of 4* as soon as possible.”

The initial results from the inspection have now been removed from the FSA website, as it now describes it as ‘awaiting inspection.’
