POLICE today appealed for witnesses after a man was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath after being attacked by two men in Chippenham’s Monkton Park last Tuesday (April 26).

Officers said the assault took place at around 4pm on April 26 when a man in his 50s was approached by two men who appeared drunk.

It happened along the footpath in Monkton Park that runs alongside the Emery Gate car park to St Mary’s Street.

The victim was hit on the head with a bottle and punched and kicked several times. He sustained a laceration to his head and required treatment at the RUH in Bath.

The suspects were not known to the victim.

The first suspect is described as white, between 5 ft 11 and 6 ft tall, with brown hair. The victim described him as having a multi-coloured eye which he said was distinctive. He was wearing a black top, black trousers and trainers.

The second man is described as white, between 5 ft 11 and 6 ft tall, wearing black trousers, trainers, dark hair and no distinctive features.

Both suspects were drinking from large beer bottles at the time of the incident.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the assault.
