FIREFIGHTERS in Trowbridge raised £507 from a charity car wash on Saturday (May 21) in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event was held at the town’s fire station on Hilperton Road and around ten firefighters and eight fire cadets, supported by around five station staff, washed cars with a fire hose in return for donations.

Watch manager Steve Taylor said: “We didn’t have the same numbers as we have had in the past but people were very generous. A couple of people each gave us £40.”

Station Manager Dave Geddes said: “The charity provides everyone within the fire and rescue service with a vital lifeline when things are tough, whether it’s rehabilitation after injury or someone else to turn to during mental health or financial challenges.

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist, lifelong support for all serving and retired members of the UK fire services community, empowering individuals to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives.

It is reliant on donations from the fire and rescue community and general public to meet the £10 million cost of operating its centre and community-based services to support over 55,000 beneficiaries.
