CHIPPENHAM MP Michelle Donelan has given her seal of approval to this year’s Monkton Park Royal Scarecrow Trail.

The trail on Saturday and Sunday (May 21 and 22) featured 47 scarecrows in Monkton Park, Chippenham, visited by hundreds of people.

The local MP said: “Checked out the Monkton Park Royal Scarecrow Trail today - must say it seems to get better each year!

“Well done everyone involved. It was wonderful to see so many people doing the trail - great fun for all ages.

“Also wonderful to see such a great range of local businesses supporting.”

The trail was organised by the Friends of Monkton Park Primary School, which has so far raised more than £2,000 towards school funds.

One of the Friends, Emma Claridge, said: “The weather was fantastic. Everybody enjoyed it and we had a barbecue, cake sale and raffle on Saturday.

“We are still doing the final figures but we have raised over £2,000.”

Another Friend, Nicolette Vos-Neal added: “This year’s theme was Royal, so we had everything from kings and queens to corgis

“This is the first time in two years we’ve held the event since the Covid pandemic and we nearly sold out of trail maps.

“We trying to raise £5,000 for a new community centre at the side of the school.”
