CHILDREN from a Bradford on Avon primary school have helped to decorate a canal trip boat on the nearby Kennet & Avon for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations
The pupils from Fitzmaurice Primary School adorned The Barbara McLellan canal trip boat with a crown for the 70th year of Her Majesty’s reign.
Boat manager Lesley Hooper, from the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, said: “The Barbara McLellan at Bradford on Avon is looking resplendent, adorned with the most beautiful crown, ready for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
“This crown was fashioned by the Year 4 and 5 children from Fitzmaurice Primary School, which is close to the canal and the mooring of the Barbara Mac.
“The design of the crown was conceived by teacher Mrs Babs Blake and her student teachers.
“They have recycled broken hoola hoops, plastic bottles and bottle tops to create this regal masterpiece, to which every child contributed.”
Dressed in 1970s outfits, with each class dressed in a style from the different decades the Queen has been on the throne.
Accompanied by Bradford on Avon Mayor Cllr Katie Vigar, the children processed behind the crown to present it to the crew on the boat.
In exchange, the crew took the children for a canal boat ride, during which they practised their "royal waves" to walkers and boaters.
