MP for the Chippenham Constituency, Michelle Donelan, has backed Penny Mordaunt in the Conservative Party Leadership Contest following a poll of 800 responses.

The poll was on the MP’s website, where locals put Mordaunt who is currently Minister of State for Trade of United Kingdom as their top choice- and Donelan also feels Mordaunt has what it takes.

On Wednesday, July 13, the Chippenham MP posted a request for comments on Facebook, stating that she was interested in hearing from as many locals as possible.

This was above former chancellor Rishi Sunak and then-current foreign secretary Liz Truss, the other candidates which made the top three.

The Rt Hon Michelle Donelan MP said: “A huge thank you to the 800+ people who voted in my poll, I’m always keen to give local people every opportunity to have their say. I’m delighted to be supporting Penny Mordaunt in the Leadership Contest.

“Penny was Chippenham’s most popular choice for our next Prime Minister by far, and I’m confident that she has the skills, vision and experience to lead our party, and lead our country.”

Donelan will be running regular surveys and polls for people to have their say on a whole range of issues in future months-  you can sign up to receive these here
