BBC Breakfast's famous weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was live from Wiltshire this morning, as she visited a sunflower field in Alderton

On a special assignment, she brought Breakfast viewers the weather from Manor Farm where over a million sunflowers are growing.

She said: "They're planted deliberately on this soil, because it's good soil for them.

"They've had a good drink this morning as well- it's been raining here, and farmer Jason has told me that really perks up the leaves. So they're looking on splendid form.

"But of course, we do need some rain. Some of them have been very deficient in it for a while."

The sunflowers will be harvested between September and October where they will be made into oil, or into birdseed.

Carol added: "They may see some more water by the end of today because the forecast for today for us all is fairly cloudy with some showers, but it's also a pretty breezy and blustery day."

Breakfast presenter Jon Kay enthused at the scenery, noting: "We've loved seeing the sunflowers even though the sky's been a bit grey.

"We got the drone up there this morning and have got these lovely pictures and it is stunning looking down on this field- what, is it 25 acres?"

The sunflowers were planted in April, according to the programme.

Carol said: "They're beautiful. Some of them have such big heads, you can't help but smile when you look at them."
