A GIANT mural in Chippenham was refurbished in time for Easter by an artistic minister.

Measuring 23ft wide and 14ft high, the mural, which is mounted on the wall of the Christian Book Shop in River Street, has been given a fresh look designed to last.

Keith Wilson, minister for Chippenham's Christian Fellowship in Wood Lane, said: "The design came from the children of Kington Langley Primary School.

"It was then transposed by another artist into a larger size and put up in 2000 to celebrate the Millennium.

"It became badly faded and needed to be refurbished. It was quite a massive piece of work and it took me a number of months. It was an on and off project."

The giant mural was refurbished using specialised all-weather paint designed to keep the artwork looking fresh for at least another five years.

Mr Wilson, 43, who has two sons, said: "The original design was done in a water based acrylic. What I have done is put on a specialist outdoor crown paint with a stain finish."

Based on the seven I am' phrases of Jesus, such as I am the resurrection of the life', the mural stands proud and bright for all to see.

"I think it is a great witness to the Christian faith. The sayings of Jesus are very significant for the Christian life. It is a very meaningful mural," said Mr Wilson.

"My wife and boys are very proud. It is nice the way it coincided with Easter and Good Friday."
