FOUR immigrants were taken into custody on suspicion of working illegally following a Home Office raid on an Italian restaurant in north Wiltshire last week.

Officials conducted the immigration enforcement raid on the Amore Italian restaurant in Pickwick Road, Corsham, on the evening of Thursday (October 6).

A spokesperson confirmed that four people – a Brazilian national and three Albanian nationals – were later arrested and taken into custody.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “The government is tackling illegal immigration and the harm it causes by removing those with no right to be in the UK.

“We continue to work with law enforcement agencies to tackle illegal migration in all its forms.

“Our Nationality and Borders Act will fix the broken system; making it fair to those in genuine need and firm on those who seek to abuse it.”

They added: “The Brazilian national was encountered to be working in breach of his visit visa and was arrested and later bailed.

“Three Albanian nationals were also encountered working illegally. They will be dealt with according to immigration rules.

“A civil penalty notice was served upon the restaurant. It may be liable for a civil penalty of up to £20,000 per illegal worker if they cannot evidence that the correct right to work checks have been conducted.

“Enforcement visits are intelligence led. The public rightly expects we investigate each potential breach thoroughly and we make no apology for this.”
