COOKS are brushing up their baking skills to take part in this year’s Trowbridge Apple Festival.

The festival takes place on tomorrow, from 11am to 3pm, at Emmanuel’s Yard in Church Street, Trowbridge.

Once again, one of the highlights of this year’s festival will be The Great Apple Bake Off.

Contestants will be asked to bake an apple pie or apple cake using British apples and fairtrade ingredients.

Entries can be made by anyone, whether they are adults or children, but must be submitted by 12 noon on Saturday at Emmanuel’s Yard.

The Festival is run by small local charity The Big Community Grow who started the annual event in 2012.

Originally held in the orchard and grounds of the historic Grade 2 listed Courtfield House, the festival is taking place in Emmanuel’s Yard for the second time.

Visitors are invited to take part in lots of apple-themed activities including tasting of different varieties of apple and pressing apples to make apple juice.

One of the festival organisers, Mel Jacob, of The Big Community Grow, said: “Our event is free and there’s lots of fun for children and adults.

“We’ve collected some wonderful local apples this year that people can try and take home, and of course there’s the Great Apple Bake Off.

“Trowbridge Mayor Graham is one of the judges and is looking forward to trying this year’s entries!”
