ORGANISERS of the Warminster are keeping their fingers crossed for dry weather and a huge turn-out.

More than 50 entries, including carnival floats and masqueraders, will be taking part in the annual procession through the town centre tomorrow evening (Saturday, October 29).

Sandra Major, chairman of the Warminster Carnival Committee, is hoping for a huge turn-out as the procession will be the first for two years.

The event was absent in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

“I am hoping for fine weather and a good turn-out. We are keeping our fingers crossed,” she said.

Warminster Carnival is usually held every year on the last Saturday in October.

“We are a member of the Wessex Circuit and our carnival is the last in the circuit,” Mrs Major added.

Organisers held their last fundraising event on Thursday evening, a bingo session at the Civic Centre.

The carnival procession begins at 6.45pm and is expected to end between 8pm and 8.30pm after wending its way through Warminster town centre.

Volunteers will have collecting buckets, debit/credit card readers and a special QR code will be released tomorrow for fundraising.

The route traditionally begins in Boreham Road and takes in East Street, Market Place, High Street, George Street, Silver Street and finishes in Church Street close to the zebra pedestrian crossing.

The road closure from the Conservative Club to Boreham Road takes place from 4pm to 9pm, and in Church Street to the Sydenham roundabout from 6.30pm to 9pm.
