ONE of Westbury’s local community charities has decided to call it quits due to a lack of volunteers coming forward to help run it.
The Penleigh and Oldfield Park Community Action Network, popularly known as POP-CAN, has decided to disband.
POP-CAN used to run family fun days, skate and scooter days, dodgeball games and litter picks as well as other events for the local community in the areas that it served.
The group has also decided to return a £1,000 grant awarded by Westbury Town Council back to the local council.
The council decided on Monday to transferring the £1,000 to its events budget to spend on events in the Penleigh and Oldfield Park areas.
POP-CAN has asked the council to hold two of its popular skateboard events during the 2023 school holidays.
Westbury mayor Cllr Sheila Kimmins said: “POP-CAN has asked whether it will be acceptable to spend the money on the skate park events.
“The money will go into the events budget and the committee will then arrange for it to be spent because it is money for that area. It has to be used for that purpose.”
