A WILTSHIRE ‘shining star’ has helped to switch on the Christmas Lights display in Trowbridge.

Amelie Eaton was chosen by Trowbridge mayor Cllr Graham Hill from more than a dozen ‘special people’ nominations to help him switch on the lights on Friday.

A town council spokesperson said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate their special person - we are very lucky to have so many wonderful people in our community.

“Our mayor, Councillor Graham Hill, took the time to read each and every nomination and we are pleased to announce that Amelie Eaton will be joining us on Friday to 'flip the switch' on the town's lights.”

Amelie, ten, from Trowbridge, started riding a balance bike when she was 18 months old and started racing BMX when she was four.

When she was seven, she won her first British Championships and at the age of nine she won the British Championships, the National series and qualified for the World Championships.

In August, she competed for Team GB in the World Championships in Nantes, France, and made it through to the semi-finals coming 16th in the world.

She also won the British Championships for the third year running and has qualified for the World Championships next year in Glasgow.
