A Wiltshire village turned out in force for their traditional Boxing Day boules tournament.

56 teams of four turned out at Holt Village Green, each competing for the coveted winner’s certificate and a bottle of Champagne.

Event organiser Jon Palmer was delighted at the turn out.

He said: "We had a staggering 240 entrants and dozens more watching. Holt is a village that always supports the annual boules match.”

The event has been running for 32 years and is always a popular Boxing Day past time.

“It is well established and is now part of village life. People get out for some fresh air and meet friends”, added Mr Palmer.

A team named Brostos won the event after a close finish with Frosty Fosters.

It came down to the wire, but Brostos won on the last ball.

Clare and Garrod Musto, and daughters Bella and Evie Brown, were thrilled with their win. They were presented with a bottle of Champagne donated by the Toll Gate.

Mrs Musto said: “It’s lucky for us to win after such a close finish but the annual boules is always great fun for the family.”

Mr Palmer added: “It was a tense and exciting finish. This is a popular time for families to get together and join in with the village.”
