SWINDON Supermarine have re-signed goalkeeper Josh Gould after his acrimonious exit from National League South side Bath City.

Gould played six games for Marine during October and November before leaving for the Twerton Park club.

After making his debut against St Albans City, the former Swansea City stopper made six further appearances in National League South – including two against local rivals Chippenham Town.

Bath failed to win any of the seven matches Gould featured in and conceded 10 goals along the way.

Ahead of the club’s game with Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, Marine’s latest signing announced on Twitter he would be leaving Bath with immediate effect over what he claimed were “broken promises” which appeared to be aimed at Romans boss Jerry Gill.

In a short statement on Twitter, Gould said: “Unfortunately, I have made the decision to leave Bath City due to broken promises.

“2023 is the year to put myself and my own well-being first by playing for someone that shows respect and has pure intentions.

“Along with the fans, I would like to wish the players, [Ryan Clarke], [Aaron Hopkinson], [Lee Williams], [Sarah Carr], and [Simon Jenkins] all the very best for the rest of the season who have been nothing but first class since I arrived. Gouldy.”

From Marine’s point of view, Gould’s decision could not have come at a more opportune time after current goalkeeper Liam Armstrong, who is on loan at the Webbswood Stadium from National League North outfit Gloucester City until January 31, suffered a broken foot during the 2-1 defeat away at Merthyr Town on Monday.

The 22-year-old is highly unlikely to play for Marine again this month as a result, and leaves Lee Spalding’s men with yet another new gloveman for their Wiltshire derby with Salisbury on Saturday.
