The front engine of the car was smoking when police arrived and the fire service in Trowbridge was called out as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire crew only had to make the scene safe.

It is understood the collision set off the vehicle’s air bags. It is not known whether the driver was injured.

Police have since confirmed that a man has been arrested.

It is understood the restaurant was open at the time.

On Wednesday morning the smashed front and sides window of the Thai restaurant were boarded up for security reasons.
