A STYLISH new 24-seat cinema for movie buffs has opened in an historic house in the heart of Trowbridge.

But if you want to book seats for yourself, family and friends you’ll have to be quick as two of the next four films are already sold out.

The Screening Room is a stylish 24-seat cinema in the historic vaults of Parade House in Trowbridge.

It features comfortable and luxurious black leather chairs, a spectacular 85-inch screen and Dolby Atmos sound system.

The cinema has been built by Simon and Carey Tesler, the new owners of the Grade I listed Georgian townhouse.

Having saved the historic property from being turned into flats, they now operate Parade House as a wedding venue and events space in the historic heart of Wiltshire’s county town.

Mr Tesler was delighted with the attendance at Friday’s launch, saying: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of The Screening Room and Ushers Bar in the vaults of Parade House, Trowbridge, with support from Wiltshire Council’s Future High Streets Fund.

“Four times a month, the Screening Room presents the best in classic and independent movies with a hand-picked selection ranging from recent releases to the Golden Age of Hollywood.”

On Friday, the Times attended the launch evening and reception, followed by a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Rear Window starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr.

The next two films, a St Valentine’s Day screening of Amelie on Tuesday, February 14, and the Banshees of Inisherin on Friday, February 17 are already sold out.

But if you’re quick, you can still book seats for The Quiet Girl on Friday, February 24 and Love & Friendship on Friday, March 3.

Tickets for screenings are available in advance or on the door but because of the limited number of seats in The Screening Room, advance reservations are strongly recommended.

The new Ushers Bar, adjoining The Screening Room, is open on movie nights to ticketholders from 6pm, serving a selection of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks as well as light snacks.

The evening’s movie begins at 8pm but times may vary according to running time.

The Ushers Bar and The Screening Room are also available for private hire for events and functions.

Carey said: “Cinema-goers can invite 24 of their friends and family for drinks and a private screening of their favourite movie, if they wish.”
