A new wine bar and restaurant will soon be serving customers in Chippenham.

The vacant unit at 20 Borough Parade will be a restaurant, wine bar and coffee shop if the licence application to sell alcohol is approved by Wiltshire Council.

The venue will be called The Cellar.

Shop owner Bryan Houde of Wine Monkey Ltd, says on his website: “The Cellar will be a neighbourhood destination for good wine, good food and good people.

“There’s no snobbery here, just a passion for incredible wines, who makes them and where they come from.

“Sustainably made wines available by the glass, carafe or bottle, to have in or take away, and a selection of locally made artisan plates and nibbles to enjoy in a casual yet stylish setting.

“I like wine. I like good wine. And I like wine that is good for the planet.

“That’s why I choose to partner with small independent producers who understand their impact on and responsibility to the environment and to consumers.

“I love learning about wine and sharing my discoveries, and I’m excited to soon be able to share them with you!”

Alcohol will be sold from 10am-11pm every day.

As part of the licence application there are plans to make film showings anytime from 4pm-11pm on weekdays and on weekends from midday until 11pm.

The plans say film showings would not be done regularly.

The entrance door will open to a wine and retail shop to the left and to the right is a bar and seating area for consuming food and drinks.

The application says the retail section will sell wine, beer, cider and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for off-site consumption from the shop.

Table service will be provided outside directly in front of the premises for food and drink consumption as part of the restaurant service.

Mr Houde signed the lease for The Cellar on January 23 and said on the social network Nextdoor: “Pinch me! This is actually happening! Two weeks ago, I agreed on the lease for the new headquarters for Wine Monkey. Look out, Chippenham, a new wine bar and bottle shop are coming to town! More details to follow soon.”

The building the shop will be in was a TSB bank branch but it closed in March 2021.
