A MAN in his 40s is being questioned by police after a child died at a traveller site in Wiltshire.
Officers investigating the sudden death of the girl on Saturday, February 25 at the site in Poplar Tree Lane confirmed she was a one-year-old.
Emergency services, including air ambulances from Dorset and Somerset, responded to reports of a girl unresponsive.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the child died at the scene.
In a statement, police said: “We were called to an address on Poplar Tree Lane, Southwick, Trowbridge at around 4pm on February 25 following reports of a girl in cardiac arrest.
“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the girl passed away at the scene.”
A man in his 40s, of Poplar Tree Lane, is helping police with their enquiries.
Detective Inspector Debbie Hatch said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this incredibly sad time.”
“We are still in the very early stages of our investigation, and It would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.”
