A man killed in a car crash near Dilton Marsh has been named as a former pilot who was due to get married in June.

Warwick Bayman, 63, died after a head-on collision while driving his Ford Mondeo on the A3098, near Dilton Marsh, on April 11.

Warwick’s sister Claire has since paid tribute to her brother who lived in Frome for much of his life, and was educated in Somerset, before working for local businesses Benchairs, Lamanesta and Frontline.

He later trained as a pilot before becoming an instructor at Compton Abbas near Shaftesbury.

Warwick then moved on to become a commercial pilot, flying Trislanders, in Cornwall and the Channel Islands.

After his retirement, Warwick returned to Frome to work for Homebase where he met and fell in love with Tracy Imboden.

The couple were engaged and lived together in Frome.

They were due to tie the knot in Cyprus this June.

Claire also revealed that her brother had a lifelong love of rallying and motorsport, and had been involved in the Frome Canoe Club in his youth.

Warwick’s funeral will be held at St Margaret’s Church, in Corsley, on Monday, May 15 at 1pm.
