Three Wiltshire locations have been listed in the Top Ten of 30 places to visit for a relaxing staycation.

The picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe came in second and third place, earning scores of 72.2 and 71.3 out of 100.

Both villages benefitted from affordable accommodation, minimal noise and light pollution and plenty of things to do in the surrounding area. 

The ancient market town of Devizes also ranked in the top 10, coming in sixth place with a score of 68.5.

The list has been compiled by retail brand ARRAN Sense of Scotland which said: “How many times have you come back from holiday feeling more exhausted than you did when you left?

“While a busy, action packed trip can be great, sometimes you just want to switch off and unwind instead.

“So, if you’re looking for a calmer break but don’t know where to start, we’re here to help.

“We compared 100 different towns and villages, using data from nine different criteria including accommodation costs, activities, weather, light and noise pollution, to create our ranking of the UK’s most relaxing staycations.”
