A dangerous driver has been banned from the roads for three years after a hit-and-run crash in Trowbridge.
Joshua Cain, 34, of Brassmill Lane, Newbridge, Bath, hit a pedestrian when he mounted the kerb onto the pavement outside The Greyhound pub on Mortimer Street in Trowbridge on March 4, 2022.
The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered serious head injuries. He needed surgery to a broken jaw, as well as having his teeth knocked out.
Cain was swiftly arrested and pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
On Tuesday, May 23, in a hearing at Salisbury Crown Court, Cain was disqualified from driving for three years, required to pay compensation of £2,000 and was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence.
He is also required to complete a community sentence of 80 hours.
DC Kelly-Ann Higginbottom of CID said: “Cain’s actions were incredibly dangerous, and it is fortunate that the victim’s injuries, while serious, were not a lot worse.
“He is now required to pay the victim £2,000 compensation and is banned from the roads for three years.
“He has also been given a suspended prison sentence and a community order of 80 hours.”
