A Marlborough café I set to start serving alcohol after its premise licence was approved.

Krumbz Café at 20 Kennet Place will serve alcohol between 8am and 6.30pm every day.

Initially, the plan was to serve until 10pm and Marlborough Town Council objected.

The Town Clerk said in a statement: “This licence application was considered at Marlborough Town Council’s Planning Committee yesterday.

“The Committee resolved to not support this application on the grounds of neighbour amenity, potential noise in what is essentially a quiet residential location, proximity to the river and Coopers Meadow Park (concern at off sale might encourage alcohol consumption in the parks proximity).”

The applicants changed the hours planned during after a consultation period involving the town council.

The applicants also modified the proposal to say: “There shall be no vertical drinking at the premises, all alcohol shall be consumed whilst seated.”

Wiltshire Councillor Jerry Kunkler who attended the meeting said the application had then been approved as submitted at the premises licence meeting on June 20.

In the application it says: “Krumbz Café is a new café on the riverside in a picturesque location. The premises is primarily food-led but wishes to add alcohol ancillary to the food offer.

“This is primarily to accommodate the passing tourist trade during the summer months.”
