CHIPPENHAM charity Doorway has been nominated by new town mayor Marian Stickland as her chosen charity of the year.

The drop-in centre in Foghamshire provides a safe place for adults with nowhere to live or those suffering from issues such as debt or mental health problems.

Margaret Cleverley, project manager from Doorway, said: "We are very proud that Doorway has been chosen by the mayor of Chippenham, as her mayoral charity this year.

"She has visited the drop-in and we will be working closely with her and supporting her where we can in her fundraising efforts.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for us to continue raising the profile of Doorway locally and telling everyone about the positive work we are doing to help people who are homeless or who have other complex problems to change their lives."

Cllr Stickland hopes to help raise as much money as possible for the charity.

She said: "I have joined them for lunch and talked with all the guests.

"The facilities for a meal, shower and change of clothes are excellent and guests receive any help required.

"I aim to raise awareness of the services offered."
