A second woman has died after an "unexplained" incident in a Wiltshire village.

The woman, who was in her 50s, was taken ill when police were called to a property in White Street, Market Lavington, on July 31 and found an elderly woman in her 90s dead.

Wiltshire Police said it was treating the pensioner's death as unexplained and began an investigation - and released a update confirming the double tragedy on Thursday.

It says the woman in her 50s died due to a medical condition.

Detective Sergeant Sam Hopkinson said in a statement: "A woman who was taken ill at a property in Market Lavington has sadly died.

"On July 31, officers attended a house in White Street, Market Lavington, following a report concerning the welfare of a woman in her 90s.

"The woman was sadly declared dead at the scene.

"A second woman who lived at the property, aged in her 50s and who was not related to the deceased, has also passed away in hospital due to a medical condition.

"Both deaths are currently being treated as unexplained but there is no third-party involvement and we are not looking for anyone else.

"We are awaiting the results of the post-mortem of the woman in her 90s.

"A file for the woman in her 90s will now be prepared for the coroner."
