A school uniform swap-shop in Bradford on Avon has proved such a big hit with parents that it could be expanded.

Members of St Laurence School’s Parent-Teachers Association opened the pop-up shop in the former Granny Mo’s Delicatessen.

The idea came to PTA chair Suzie Bowling as she was driving by the shop in Silver Street and saw it was empty.

She got together some volunteers to open the shop for two weeks to enable parents to buy second-hand uniforms or to swap uniforms for larger sizes.

Suzie said: “It’s difficult to get everyone together for the day for a one-off sale at St Laurence School.

“I was driving past the shop and saw it was empty and thought that if we paid the rent for a couple of weeks we could open up a pop-up shop.

“We brought all the items down from the school and managed to put together a team of volunteers to cover shifts every afternoon during the week and on Saturday.

“It has gone really well and has been very popular. It has been crazy good.

“We’ve had mothers coming in and children trying on clothes after school and even grandparents coming in to buy.

“There has been a huge amount of interest, including from the primary schools so we are thinking of expanding it.

“It’s much better to have a shop and open it for longer. If we can do this twice a year we could have a uniform pop-up shop for the whole town.”

With parents and children trading up to larger sizes, the shop now has a lot of sizes available for Year 6 pupils who are likely to go to St Laurence next year.

The shop’s last day of trading is Saturday (September 30), but it is opening from Monday to Friday from 1pm to 5pm and on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.

One of the mums, Catherine Britton, said: “This is the last week of the pop-up shop. You can buy, swap and donate.

“We have lots of smaller sizes perfect for years 7 and 8’s. We are also looking for PTA volunteers so if you could spare some time please pop in and say hello.”

Lulu Pryor added: “New donations coming in all the time (some brand new!). We do need Huntington Polos and bigger sizes please.”

Uniform donations can be dropped off at the St Laurence School reception on any school day.
