A flood warning has been issued for a strip of the M4 as river levels continue to rise.

The south west experienced a major downfall of rain on Friday night which led to flooding throughout several of the county’s towns.

As a result, river levels have been rising and a flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for part of Wiltshire.

This area covers sections of the M4 between Royal Wootton Bassett (Junction 16) and Chippenham (Junction 17), as well as the village of Dauntsey.

Riverside properties on Old Sodom Lane, The Green and Dauntsey Green including Earl Danbys Primary School are all in danger of flooding.

Sodom Lane including Barn Farm and Evergreen Farm as well as the area around the Providance Chapel are also at risk.

The alert said: “Flooding is expected in this area. This means properties are at risk of flooding.

“Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions.

“Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.

“Environment Agency Flood Warning Officers set the river or tidal levels that have triggered this message.”

Data shows that as of 10.45am on Saturday, the level of the Dauntsey Brook was at 1.79m, classed as 'high' and considered to be rising.
