The street is a key part of the carnival route from Canal Road to Cradle Bridge and the procession is expected to attract thousands of visitors if the weather stays fine.

Trowbridge Carnival committee chair Maryrose Mantle said this year’s procession will be “just as good as” previous years and is praying the weather stays dry.

She said: “We have got over 50 entries, including the three illuminated floats on the Wessex Carnival Circuit, two smaller floats, four majorette groups and two dance groups, plus multiple walkers.

“Our advice to spectators is they can’t stand outside the Town Hall this year, so we are suggesting they go to Timbrell Street, Church Street and Castle Street to watch the procession pass by.

“The Jennings Fairground has moved from Court Street near St Stephen’s Place to the old East Wing site on the other side of the river.

“We are inviting everyone to come to the presentations at The Lamb Inn at 9.15pm.”

The carnival procession starts with the floats and walkers lining up in Canal Road from 6pm and ends at Cradle Bridge and will involve several road closures.

Wiltshire Council has issued a temporary road closure order from 4pm onwards in part of Canal Road meaning traffic will have to find alternative routes to avoid the procession.

The procession starts from Canal Road at 7pm and will make its way through the town via The Down, Islington, Timbrell Street, Union Street, Church Street, Silver Street, Market Street, and Castle Street, ending at Cradle Bridge.

Road closures will be in place from 6pm to 10.30pm for most parts of the route, and from 7.40pm to 11pm at the end of the route. Diversions in the town centre will be signposted.
